Captain William Armistead, born 1762, brother of Anthony, Robert, Westwood, and Alexander Carver. Captain William served as a Drummer Boy in the Revolution. He had at least two brothers, killed during the Revolution. He saw his brother Westwood killed at the Battle of Brandywine. He had two sisters who died young.
Captain William Armistead moved to Randolph County, North Carolina, and married Rebecca Kimball, near Warrenton, N. C.; thence to Alabama in 1819.
Children as copied from family Bible as follows: Westwood, born 1791; John, born 1792; Elizabeth Lee, born 1794; Martha, born 1796.
Captain William Armistead next married, Elizabeth, widow of John Morris and daughter of Lewis and Jane Westmoreland, of Halifax County, N. C. She had a son John Morris from her previous marriage. Children by second marriage: Robert-Starkey, born 1800; Jane Westmoreland, born 1802.
Captain William Armistead died in Clarke County, Ala. On his tombstone is the following:
In memory of Captain William Armistead, a soldier of the Revolution, a Native of Virginia; departed this life March 1st, 1842, age eighty years.
The first son Westwood Armistead married Elizabeth Burroughs in North Carolina; died in 1845. Issue: (1) James W, (2) Bryan, (3) William Westwood, (4) Robert S., (5) Emma, (6) Elizabeth
The second son John Kimball Armistead married Julia Gaines. They lived in Wilcox, Ala.; then moved in 1840 to Mississippi. Issue: (I) William Henry, (2) James, (3) General Charles, C. S. A.; (4) John; (5) Dr. E. R. A., of Prescott, Ala.; (6) daughter; (7) daughter
Robert Starkey Armistead, third son of Captain William Armistead, married Anne Carney; moved to Texas in 1835; died 1866.
The eldest daughter Elizabeth Lee Armistead married his stepson, John Morris.
The second daughter married Edmund Waddell, of North Carolina. They have great-grandchildren in Wilcox County, Alabama. Jane Westmoreland married in Alabama, 1821, Dr. Neal Smith, a native of North Carolina, and son of Malcolm Smith. He and Malcolm Smith Sr. were soldiers of the Revolution.
